THE BILL & MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION/ GOALKEEPERS

Art Direction for The Gates Foundation

GOALKEEPERS is the annual BILL & MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION conference held at Lincoln Center. I was hired to Art Direct Bill Gates’ 2019 personal session aimed to drive attention and awareness to global health and poverty. Our responsibilities involved creating an introductory animated film as well as designing a distinctive visual language for the keynote speech, supporting speaker presentations, and discussion seminars.

To do so, we developed a modular color language based off of the Goalkeeper’s branding guide, plus a library of shapes, textures, patterns, and graphics to compliment the official photography, the individual scientists’ research, and tie the session together as a whole.

Because of situations beyond our control, the designed visual language didn’t make it to the conference. Nevertheless, it is always a privilege to be part of a project that, quite literally, betters the world.

● SECTION TITLES

Early concept for each individual speaker’s introductory title card. Ultimately, the design was pared back, but I really enjoyed making these anyway.

● SECTION GRAPHICS

While waiting for the scientists to send us their data, we built out hypothetical graphics and “screen savers” inspired by the design and color story of the section titles.
