WINDOWS, MASKS, & DOORS
Senior thesis animation made at the Rhode Island School of Design
Drawing on inspirations ranging from childhood daydreams to art-school influences such as Joseph Campbell and Indonesian shadow puppetry, a story emerged of a conductor who tunes a medley of tracks revealing masked players hidden within an old radio. In order to bring it all to life, I combined elements of Maya, After Effects animation, compositing, cel animation, photography, and a little bit of puppetry while learning all the unexpected lessons that come with embarking on an experimental film -- the all-important “make it work” truism.
The concept of windows, masks, and doors first appealed to me in their parallel uses of intentionally hiding and exposing. These elements seemed like an intriguing way to develop space and characters.
